ROLE: Children’s Pastor

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Priest in Charge or another member of the clergy

PURPOSE OF ROLE: As a key part of fulfilling the vision to know God and share the love of Jesus in Battersea and beyond, St Peter’s seeks a Children’s Pastor to lead a growing children’s ministry within a diverse community. They will have direction and pastoral oversight of Sunday service provision, as well as developing new outreach activities for children.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Children’s ministry oversight

·To oversee a vibrant children’s ministry, growing discipleship in word and spirit, serving and releasing children to live as followers of Jesus

·To build on the creative and strong foundations of past leaders to develop the strategic growth of the children’s ministry, with the support of the church family, a team of volunteers and staff team

·To lead a flourishing transition into the new church building for the children’s ministries

·To oversee and develop children’s provision on Sunday mornings for Pebbles (age 0-2), Rock Solid (age 3-10) and older children (age 10-13)

·To develop new areas of ministry for children in Key Stage 1 and 2 including growing engagement with schools

·To build relationships with children and their parents and carers and provide support and resources to help nurture their children’s faith development at home

2.All-age worship

·To lead and resource the church in its all age worship, including regular sung worship and bi-monthly all age services

3.Team leadership

·To prayerfully recruit, encourage, serve, lead and train children’s ministry team volunteers from within the church family

·To communicate effectively with team members over session delivery, longer term planning and effective discipleship of the children

·To provide pastoral and practical support to the children’s ministry team, supported by other pastoral staff

4.Outreach

·To work with the staff and church family on seasonal outreach, leading any children’s provision at community events

·To develop effective evangelism & discipleship strategies to draw children in the community into a relationship with Jesus eg midweek after school clubs

·To look for creative opportunities to strengthen links with local primary schools, connecting with children through collective worship and other teaching opportunities

5.Staff team responsibilities

·To ensure the vision and priority of children’s ministry is communicated to the whole church family

·To be an enthusiastic member of the church staff team, committed to the whole life of the church

·To be part of staff meetings, planning sessions, staff lunches and staff prayers

·To help plan the annual church weekend away, particularly children’s provision

6.Safeguarding

·To work with the Safeguarding Sub group of the PCC (church council) in all matters regarding the safeguarding of children at St Peter’s

·To ensure that the children’s ministry team works within relevant procedures regarding Health and Safety, safeguarding in line with Southwark Diocese “A Safe Church” policy and DBS checks

Job Requirements:

IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will have a passionate faith in Jesus and desire to share God’s love with children and their families. They will be growing in their faith and discipleship and seeking to follow God’s call in their life. They will have a breadth of experience of leading children’s ministries and be an effective communicator with people of all ages, backgrounds and stages of faith. They will have clear self-awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses and be seeking to grow and develop their own gifts, including spiritual gifts, as well as the gifts of those they serve and lead. They will be a strong team player and able to draw others into serving alongside them.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

·A committed Christian with a personal and active relationship with Jesus Christ (including a commitment to personal prayer, bible study and worship) and a lifestyle that reflects this as a model for others

·A love for children and a desire to share Jesus with them

·Experience in leading and developing a children’s ministry in church and/or schools

·Experience of working with children in a range of settings and from a diversity of backgrounds

·Organised & self-motivated

·Time management and administrative skills

·I.T. skills including a working experience of office software and communication platforms including email and social media.

START DATE:April 2018

WORKING HOURS:2.5-3 days per week (17.5-21 hrs) including Sunday mornings

HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT:6 weeks per annum

CONTRACT LENGTH: Permanent

SALARY:£25,000 – £28,000 pro rata according to experience

·Must be an active member of the St Peter’s Church family

·Able to work flexibly where necessary (e.g. for evening meetings). Appropriate ‘time off in lieu’ will always be provided
