ROLE: Youth & Outreach Pastor

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Priest in Charge

PURPOSE OF ROLE: St Peter’s is a lively, diverse & growing church family on the edge of an inner-city estate in London and is looking for a part time Youth & Outreach pastor. The role is vital in ensuring that the church is reaching out to and discipling young people and adults within the local community to fulfil the church’s vision of becoming passionate to know God and share the love of Jesus in Battersea & Beyond.


1.Youth provision

·Oversee the Friday night youth club (11-18s) outreach

·Lead, equip and encourage the team of volunteers

·Develop evangelism opportunities to feed into Youth Sundays provision

·Maintain the boundaries and ‘safe space’ vibe of Friday youth club

·Develop 14+ discipleship on Sunday mornings

·Develop provision for younger youth, particularly boys likely to become involved in local gangs

·Develop seasonal activities (e.g. football, climbing etc) to be a feeder to Friday night youth club, where time permits

2.Oversight of outreach initiatives

·Be responsible for growing a broad range of evangelism initiatives at St Peter’s, including:

oStreetSeed – times of praying out and about in our community, with a particular emphasis on praying for healing, prophecy and sharing the Gospel

oAlpha – overseeing and championing seasonal Alpha courses

oVulnerable adults – developing safe spaces where vulnerable adults battling with addiction can be reached and discipled

3.Team leadership

·To prayerfully recruit, encourage, serve, lead and train youth team volunteers from within the church family

·To communicate with and provide support for the team


·Handle the administrative requirements of the role, ensuring rotas and team communication is handled as efficiently as possible

START DATE:February 2018

WORKING HOURS:17.5 hours a week including Sunday mornings and Friday nights

HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT:6 weeks per annum


SALARY:£25,000 - £28,000 pro rata (£12,500 - £14000 actual annual salary) depending on experience

Job Requirements:

IDEAL CANDIDATE: St Peter’s is lookingfor a part time Youth and Outreach Pastor. The ideal candidate would have a passion for Jesus, the local church and wider community. They have a heart for youth, the vulnerable and those on the margins, and are passionate about the transformation and healing available through faith in Christ.


·A strong vocation to ministry, with the gift of evangelism

·Ability to handle confidential information professionally and discreetly

·Experience in youth work and evangelism

·A qualification in youth work (desirable)

·Some measure of theological training (desirable)

·Experience of public speaking, bible teaching (desirable)

·Team player and flexible to adjust to ministry needs of the church

·Able to manage own time and proactively prioritise competing tasks in a timely fashion

·Polite & proficient communicator & team player

·A passion to fulfill St Peter’s vision in Battersea & Beyond

Highly Desired:


·To be a committed member of the St Peter’s congregation

·Able to work flexibly where necessary (e.g. for evening meetings). Appropriate ‘time off in lieu’ will always be provided

·An enhanced CRB check will be required
