Cornerstone Church is a growing church family in Blue Springs, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City. Our leadership team along with our lead pastors, Shawn and Lisa Apking, have a passionate heart for people and building God’s Kingdom. For the past 35 years, Cornerstone Church has been sharing The Gospel and leading people to become fully devoted followers of Christ.

Cornerstone Church is looking for a Children’s Pastor to partner with them in building a flourishing Children’s Ministry that will impact kid’s lives forever. The Children’s Pastor will lead the Children’s Ministry, which includes approximately 140 children, birth through fifth grade and 80+ volunteers.

The successful candidate will not just come in to maintain, but will creatively cast vision, develop strategies, inspire volunteers, and build a sustainable system to make Cornerstone Kids an exciting and excellent ministry. Our desire is to see every child at Cornerstone and the surrounding area to encounter God as loving Father and become life-long disciples of Christ. We believe that kids can experience God’s presence, learn to hear His voice and love His Word—however young they are! To qualify, a candidate must be a balanced combination of self-starter and team player, a developer of leaders, and passionate about ministry to kids. In addition, he/she must be creative, enthusiastic, and personable. The ideal candidate is a risk-taker, yet is teachable and is biblically-grounded.

Job Requirements:


·Lead the Children’s Ministry Team in creating, developing, implementing and maintaining an ongoing ministry for children birth – 5th grade that involves worship, discipleship and community.

·Helps to develop and implement the vision for Children’s Ministries in collaboration with the Lead Pastor.

·Implement all safety and security processes for Children’s Ministry in cooperation with the church’s security team.

·Oversee the creation, implementation and coordination of curriculums and weekly message.

·Teach the knowledge, meaning, and application of God’s Word and who God is.

·Establish a small group program for the children to participate in during the weekly services.

·Create an innovative atmosphere with the use of modern day technology and visual arts to engage children.

·Work alongside the Worship Team to facilitate and support the children’s worship experience for weekly services.

·Provide leadership, training, support and oversight to all Children’s Ministry staff and volunteers.

·Provide care for children and families within the church including hospital visits and follow-ups.

·Develop and implement a program to equip parents for the spiritual formation the discipleship of their children while in the home along with offering relevant parenting classes.

·Communicate effectively with volunteers regarding curriculum, details, and expectations for weekly services.

·Seeks out community events with children, youth, or family focus in which the church can participate.

·Responsible for Children’s Ministry budget and oversight.


·Passion for ministry to children and seeing both parents and children grow in their faith.

·Demonstrated skill at recruiting and motivating volunteers.

·Strong listening and oral communication skills.

·Proven expertise in administration.

·Reliable, trustworthy, self-starter, with excellence in following through on details.

·Possess the ability to embrace innovation and creativity while adapting to growth and change.

·Possess the ability to use appropriate judgment, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.

Highly Desired:

·Previous experience directing a children’s ministry, including leadership of ministry staff (paid or volunteer staff members and/or a large volunteer team of 25+ volunteers).

·BA or BS degree or Bible College degree desired but not required;
